Apprenticeship Levy opportunities

People are one of the key themes and commitments of the University’s strategic plan. They are
the foundation of the University’s success and we are committed to recruiting and supporting talented individuals. The Apprenticeship Levy can be used to cover the cost of Apprenticeship-based training for new joiners at the start of their career,
and also for existing staff who may wish to undertake Apprenticeship based training as part of their personal and professional development.

The University is currently contracted with 25 different providers across the country, some local colleges and online organisations, that offer a vast number of Apprenticeship courses. These range from professional services Apprenticeships (Business administration,
HR, Finance etc.), to scientific training (Laboratory technicians, Engineers, Manufacturing) and there are courses to assist managerial training too.

Accessing and spending the Apprenticeship Levy is simple and straight forward, so use it to invest in your department’s or faculty’s people, and help them develop in their careers.

Information about the Levy

The UK Government introduced the Apprenticeship Levy in April 2017. The Levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to invest in Apprenticeships. Employers in England who pay the Levy, which include the
University, are able to access funding through a digital Apprenticeship service account which enables them to select and pay Government-approved training providers for Apprenticeship training. The levy is charged at a rate of 0.5% of an employer's
pay bill.

Please note: the Apprenticeship Levy can only be used to pay for the training of staff with an approved training provider.
