Institute of Physics Isaac Newton Medal and Prize
Professor Sir Michael Pepper, Visiting Professor in Chemistry, has been awarded the Institute of Physics Isaac Newton Medal and Prize. This award, given for world-leading contributions to physics, is for his fundamental work that has led to applied topics, such as the development of a new way of detecting skin cancers.
Engineering Science spinout OrganOx shortlisted for MacRobert Award 2019
OrganOx, a spinout company which produces a machine that can keep a liver alive for transplant outside the body for 24 hours, has been shortlisted for Royal Academy of Engineering’s MacRobert Award.

Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal for 'pioneering engineer'
Professor Paul Newman, Director of the Oxford Robotics Institute, was awarded for his commercially-successful innovations in autonomous vehicles, including 2013’s RobotCar – the first on UK roads.

Emerging Leader, World Heart Federation
Dr Sanne Peters, Research Fellow in Epidemiology at The George Institute for Global Health, has been recognised as an Emerging Leader by the World Heart Federation working to reduce early death from cardiovascular disease.

British Academy President’s Medal
Dr Ben Goldacre, Director of the EBM DataLab, was recently awarded the British Academy President’s Medal for his role in championing evidence and reason through his writing, broadcasting and campaigning.

£9 million investment for health and social care research
The Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, along with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, has recently been awarded £9million to host the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration Oxford and Thames Valley.
This funding is part of a £135 million investment announced this week for 15 NIHR Applied Research Collaborations (ARC) across England. Each ARC will work with local and national partners to address some of the nation’s most pressing challenges faced by the health and care system over the next five years, including dementia, obesity and mental health.

Oxford Founday - L.E.V8 Women Pre-Accelerator
Staff member Dr Tracey Denton-Calabrese from the dept of Education has been selected for the Oxford Foundry’s L.E.V8 Women Pre-Accelerator with her venture go_girl code+create. Go_girl code+create is a community outreach project that helps empower disadvantaged young women in Oxfordshire. It combines teaching coding and digital skills with social, emotional and psychological development
