Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre

The Vice-Chancellor thanked everyone involved in the negotiation process and with the securing of the donation for the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities.

Joint Venture announcement – staff and graduate housing and planning

Council approved the Joint Venture between the University and Legal and General (this venture was publicly announced on 27 June).

IT Strategic Plan 2019/24

Council endorsed the University’s IT Strategic Plan 2019-2024

Council Effectiveness Review 2018/19

Council approved the recommended implementation proposals set out in the paper for all the recommendations except 8, 12 and 13* – which will be considered in Michaelmas term 2019.

Oxford Student Union (SU)  – Annual Impact Report 2018/19

Members of the Student Union presented their Impact Report for 2018/19. Council congratulated the outgoing sabbatical officers on what they had achieved and noted their report.

The presentation included information about how the Student Union has been working to improve and enhance the experience of Oxford students. They  thanked the University staff for their support.

Highlights from the year include:

  • Achieving Investment in People – a national award that shows Oxford SU’s commitment to its staff
  • Creating a family-friendly space in the SU – a play area for students with children to relax
  • Launching the stash project – an online shop to buy ethically sourced and discounted clothes for committees
  • BAME leadership in Oxford – the SU’s first Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Leadership in Oxford event with guest speakers and networking opportunities
  • Green Impact award – the SU has achieved a reward, issued by the Environmental Sustainability team, for the last four years running
  • OXIDE – Oxford University Student Radio broadcasted 1,000 shows for over 25,000 hours
  • Student Publication Awards – The Oxford Student nominated for Publication of the Year and winner of the Interview of the Year.
