Oxford Events, the University’s new events listing platform, is now live.
The site provides a University-wide view of upcoming events, bringing together listings from departments, divisions, colleges and other units in one place.
Content on Oxford Events can be searched and filtered to support discovery across different topics, event types and areas of the University. Curated calendars and event listings can also be embedded into University websites, including on Oxweb, Mosaic, Fresco and Haiku sites.
Oxford Events has replaced OxTalks (which used outdated technology) as part of the University's digital transformation. More than 300 members of staff across the University and Colleges are already set up to list events on Oxford Events.
Oxford Events is powered by Halo
Oxford Events is powered by Halo, the University's Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Halo provides a single service for creating, managing and publishing event listings. Events published in Halo are automatically displayed on the Oxford Events site.
Managing event listings
Access to the Halo CRM is required for anyone who needs to:
- Create or edit events for the Oxford Events site
- Manage organisational or curated event calendars through Oxford Events
- Maintain curated Oxford Events listings that feed into departmental or college websites or communications (e.g. email digests)
Typical Halo users for Oxford Events listings include event organisers, departmental administrators, and communications colleagues.
To become an Oxford Events contributor or editor, please raise a service request including:
- your name
- your organisational unit (e.g. name of department, college or divisional office within the University)
- the role you require.
Guidance on requesting access and using Halo to manage content for Oxford Events – including how to create events, manage calendars, and publish listings – is available on the Halo wiki.
Website event feeds
Websites that previously used the OxTalks feed now need to update to an Oxford Events feed. Existing OxTalks feeds will remain available for a limited period but will only display older event data.
Guidance on switching feeds, including for Haiku and Mosaic websites, can be found on the Halo wiki.
Technical help and Support
For technical support with Oxford Events, including help with event publishing or website feeds, editors and contributors should log a service request via the Halo Oxford Events Support option in the IT Self-Service system on the Oxford Service Manager (OSM).
The vision and opportunity for Oxford Events with Halo
Initially, much of the functionality of Oxford Events will feel similar to OxTalks, but in future there is potential to harness Halo's wider Events Management functionality, to help contributors track their event registrations and attendance and to gather post-event feedback from attendees. This should enable upcoming events to be more effectively marketed, by helping contributors to understand who has attended particular types of events in the past and potentially by signposting colleagues to related events that may be of interest.
